The Panchakarma treatment is famous for its beneficial effects on the overall health and the well-being of an individual. It is a unique detoxification and regeneration programme for body and mind. A Panchakarma treatment cleans and polishes the body from the inside and the outside. Several specific treatments fall under the Panchakarma category which are introduced shortly at the end of the text. The treatments are chosen carefully by the doctor who considers the individual state of health of the patient. This is a 10 or 28-days process which involves a two-step process- A pre-treatment and a treatment phase. In Pre-treatment the body is acclimatised for the purification process by a two-step process: 

• Snehana Karma (Oil Therapy) - Therapy using oil and ghee preparations 
• Swedana Karma (Sudation Therapy) - Making the body sweat using Njavarakizhi, Pizhichil, Elakizhi, steam bath etc.
