Our eating habits, life-style, climatic changes, emotional and physical stress etc may cause metabolic 
toxins to accumulate in the body and result in an imbalance of the Tridoshas. Body purification or 
Sodhana Chikitsa is one of the prime treatments in Ayurveda aimed to remove these accumulated 
metabolic toxins or free radicals from the body based on the condition of the individual and the 
imbalance of Doshas. The body purification therapy supports the body’s natural mechanism of 
excreting these toxins and purifying the whole body so that it regains its balance of Vata, Pitta and 
Kapha.
The treatment program is based on Snehanakarma (internal and external oil administration), 
Swedanakarma (sweat therapies) and selective Panchakarma therapies. The therapies may include 
warm oil massages, Snehapanam (medicated ghee drinkimg), Virechanam (medicated purgation 
therapy), Vasthi (medicated enemas), Kizhy, Shirodhara, Udwarthanam, Pizhichil, Nasyam, 
Netratharpanam, Karnapooranam etc. Each treatment is aimed to purify specific parts of the body 
and rebalance. Additionally oral herbal medicines and diet is also advised during this therapy. This 
program is also useful in curing diseases related to musclo-skeletal system, respiratory system, 
digestive system, metabolic disorders, and psychological disorders and in whole it improves the 
quality of life and increases longevity.
